SIX of nine local prep basketball teams won Tuesday night, including two of four girls teams.

ALL FOUR local prep girls’ basketball teams lost in CIF-SS action Saturday, but the Los Amigos water polo team triumphed.

Saturday was a rough day on the hardwood for local girls’ sports teams, but pretty good in the water.

All four basketball teams from schools serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area lost in CIF-SS second round action, but Los Amigos triumphed in water polo and advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday.

On the basketball front, Orangewood lost 59-52 to Valley View in Division 1 action. In 2A, Edison lost 64-45 to Arroyo Valley and Westminster fell 52-39 to Downey.

In 4A play, Bolsa Grande was defeated by Rolling Hills Prep.

But in Division 7 water polo, the Lobos (now 21-6) outlasted Godinez 6-4, led by Natalie Valentin’s five goals. Los Amigos will face off against West Valley High of Hemet at the Woolett Aquatics Center in Irvine in the final four.

The winner of that game will face the winner of the Marymount-Villanova Prep semifinal contest.
