Two familiar faces are gone from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching staff, as the team traded staring pitcher Hector Santiago and reliever Joe Smith on Monday.
Santiago was impressive right up to the trade, posting a 6-0 record in July. Smith, a middle reliever, has been averaging 64 appearances a year since 2010.
The Angels also unloaded outfielders Daniel Nava and Craig Centry.
The Halos are trying to build up their starting pitching resources with three hurlers – Nick Tropeano, Andrew Heaney and Garrett Richards – all out with arm injuries.
