JACK HUSTON stars in a new “Ben Hur.”
Pirates, twins, salsa and “Nemo” are offerings available for your entertainment Friday through Sunday in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area. Here’s a quick look:
In wide release this weekend:
- “Ben Hur” is a remake of the 1959 classic that starred Charlton Heston about a Roman forced into slavery and finds spiritual salvation. Starring Jack Huston and Morgan Freeman. Rated PG.
- “War Dogs” is the supposedly true story of two amateurs who become successful gun-runners in the Afghanistan. Starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Rated R.
ON STAGE
“Pirates of Penzance” opens this week at the Festival Amphitheatre on Main Street in Garden Grove. This Gilbert & Sullivan light opera runs Aug. 18-28 with shows Thursdays through Sundays at 8 p.m. Peter Uribe directs for Shakespeare Orange County. - “Comedy of Errors” continues at the Westminster Community Playhouse through Aug. 28. Shakespearean comedy about twins separated at birth at 7272 Maple St. in Westminster (east of Goldenwest Street).
MUSIC
For free Sunday at 5 p.m. in Huntington Central Park, a concert of Latin jazz and fiery rhythms in the legendary tradition of Tito Puente and Cal Tjader, and winner of Los Angeles Music Awards “Jazz Artist of the Year.”
EVENTS
Movie Night on the Beach on Friday with a showing of “Finding Nemo” at Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach. Crafts, games and educational booths at 6:30 p.m., with the movie screening beginning at 8 p.m. Bring blankets, chairs and snacks. Location: 17851 Pacific Coast Highway.
