Bronx Bombers bomb Weaver, Halos

Back in the late 1920s and early 1930s, the New York Yankees had a lineup so powerful it was termed “Murderer’s Row.” On Friday, it was a trip back in time for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in general and Jered Weaver in particular.

At Anaheim Stadium, the Bronx Bombers bombed Weaver for four home runs en route to a 7-0 victory over the Halos. The loss put the home team’s record at 51-71, still last and falling in the American League West. They’ve now lost 14 of their last 16 games.

“Couldn’t keep the ball in the yard,” said Weaver (8-11). “Didn’t fool too many people tonight.”

Weaver, once the mainstay of the Angel starting rotation, lasted only 4.1 innings, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. He struck out two batters and walked none as his ERA rose to 5.46.

Yankee home runs were by Jacoby Ellsbury, Ronald Torreyes, Didi Gregorius and Brian McCann.

The Angel offense was pretty much non-existent, scattering six hits against four pitchers.

On Saturday, the series continues at the Big A with Ricky Nolasco (4-10) making the start for the Halos.
