Clinton has pneumonia; Ford goes south

The illness that interrupted Hillary Clinton’s campaigning on Sunday is a case of “mild pneumonia,” according to letter from her person physician Wednesday. The Washington Post is reporting that the Democratic presidential nominee had a CT scan and is taking an antibiotic. She fell ill an event held in observance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks 15 years ago. The report by Dr. Lisa Bardack said that her blood pressure and cholesterol levels were good to excellent. Clinton, 68, is expected to resume campaigning on Thursday.

FORD TO MAKE SMALL CARS IN MEXICO

Accelerating an existing trend, Ford Motor Co. announced Wednesday it was moving all of its small car production from the United States to Mexico, according to the Detroit Free Press. The move will be completed within two to three years, said CEO Mark Fields. Ford full-size cars, trucks and SUVs will continue to be made or assembled in the United States. Fiat Chrysler will be moving its car production south of the border, as manufacturers seek lower operating costs, including wages.

U.S. WILL ADMIT MORE REFUGEES

An increase in the number of refugees that the United States will admit is being sought by the Obama administration, according to NBC News. The U.S. would admit 110,000 people, an increase of 30 percent over the previous year. Many of the refugees are fleeing the three-sided civil war in Syria. The question of how many war refugees the U.S. should admit has become a political issue, with Democrats favoring admitting more and Republicans generally opposed.

FEDS LOOKING INTO WELLS FARGO

The $185 million fine that Wells Fargo Bank was hit with last week over “widespread illegal banking” activity in which as many as two million accounts may have been created without the customer’s knowledge or consent may be just the start. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that U.S. Attorney offices in New York and California are investigating additional action, including possible civil or criminal legal action. The company fired 5300 employees in connection with the scandal.
