Another big inning. Another big win. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning Wednesday night and went on to defeat the Oakland A’s 8-6 at the Big A. The win represented a sweep of their Northern California rivals and their sixth victory in seven games.
Five Oakland pitchers were touched for 10 hits and eight runs. All eight were charged to Ross Detwiler (2-4) in that big fourth inning. The key blow was a two-run home run by Kole Calhoun – his 18th round-tripper of 2016 – but two other Angels, Andrelton Simmons and Shane Robinson each knocked in two runs as well.
The Angels used seven pitchers to hold on to the win. Trailing 8-2 after four innings, the A’s scored once in the six and three times in the eighth on homers by Khris Davis and Marcus Semien.
Angel star Mike Trout (1-for-4 with a run scored) was taken out of the game after being hit by a pitch on the shoulder blade in the eighth inning.
