The Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show is biggest doings in the Garden Grove-HB-Westminster area, but there are a lot of other things to if you are not an aviation buff. Here’s our rundown … or take-off.
EVENTS
Sponsored by the Breitling, a manufacture of high-end watches, the show will take place over the strand between Huntington Beach Pier and Magnolia Street, with the “show center” over the area of Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway.
- Highlights of the show will include stunts by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and other aerial performers including jets and classic prop planes. The downtown area around Main Street and PCH are expected to be jammed with traffic, so for some people, use of a shuttle service might be wise. The main shuttle will go from the northwest corner of Goldenwest Street and Ellis Avenue on Saturday and Sunday for $35; the pass is good all weekend.
- According to the HBPD, parking will be available on a first-come, first served basis around the city and will open at 5 a.m. each day. Parking may (and probably will) be difficult to find during the Breitling Huntington Beach Airshow days. The parking fee for local lots will be $25 on Friday and $30 on Saturday and Sunday. Yearly and monthly pass holders will not be charged; however, parking cannot be guaranteed.
- Drone operators should be aware than the Federal Aviation Agency has placed a temporary ban on flying drones in certain areas Oct. 20-13. Those restrictions include Oct. 20 12:45-1:45 p.m.; Oct. 21 10-11:30 a.m. (if necessary); Oct. 21 12-4:30 p.m.; Oct. 22 12-4:30 p.m.; Oct. 23 12:00-4:30 pm.

Opening in area cinemas this weekend are:
- “Keeping Up With the Joneses.” The comedy-adventure film stars Gal Gadot (“Wonder Woman”) and Jon Hamm (Don Draper from “Mad Men” along with Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher about spies, snakes and suburbia. Rated PG-13.
- “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.” Tom Cruise reprises his role as a superspy summoned back into service to meet a huge threat. Rated PG-13. Action-adventure.
- “Boo! A Medea Halloween.” Tyler Perry battles ghouls and ghosts in, uh, drag. Rated PG-13. A comedy.
