BASKETBALL action started Monday for many area high school teams.
Monday was the opening day of the local high school basketball season for a lot of teams in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area. Most of these are tournament games; league competition starts after the new year. Here are some scores.

The top scorers from Monday for boys included Uriel Batista of Orangewood Academy with 28 points, Mehkel Harvey of Ocean View with 22 points, and Justin Cho of Orangewood with 21 points.
Among girls, the top scorers were Taryn Nadeau of La Quinta and Isabella Robles of Pacifica with 23 points each. Frankie Wade Sanchez of Huntington Beach had 18 points.
