SANTIAGO defeated neighboring Orangewood 55-50 on Wednesday.
Santiago High School and Santiago High School are neighbors in east Garden Grove, but the two schools rarely meet in athletic contests. But the small private school and the big high school did clash in a boys’ basketball game on Wednesday.
The OA Spartans had a 21-19 halftime lead, but a big third-quarter edge by the Cavaliers of 21-13 was enough to carry Santiago to a 55-50 victory. Chris Robertson led the Cavs with 19 points. Uriel Bautista had 18 points for the Spartans.
Santiago improves to 9-7, while Orangewood goes to 3-13.
