“HIDDEN FIGURES” opens this weekend locally in cinemas.
After the rush and expense of the holiday season, the local entertainment sector is taking a bit of a breather in January, while making plans for the rest of 2017.
Here’s the look at the art and leisure scene for this weekend, and maybe a little past that.
Just one major release on Friday, with some other less-imposing offerings.
- “Hidden Figures” is based on the true story of black female mathematicians who held a crucial role in the early days of NASA and the Space Race. This PG-13 film stars Taraji Henson, Octavia Spence and Kevin Costner.
- “Underworld: Blood Wars.” Werewolves and vampires still at war. Kate Beckinsale stars. It’s rated R.
- “Arsenal.” Unlike those Liam Neeson “Taken” movies, this time it’s a brother who is kidnapped. Rated R and starring Nicolas Cage, Lydia Hull and John Cusack.
ON STAGE
All of our local live theater companies are dark this week. The first local stage play of 2017 will be “The Wisdom of Eve,” which will open at the Westminster Community Playhouse on Jan. 27.
EVENTS
Not a lot of entertaining events coming to the area this weekend. If it doesn’t rain, the Friday Night Car Show will again be on Main Street in Garden Grove from 4-8 p.m.
