Oilers fall to Los Al in girls’ hoops

SIX of nine local prep basketball teams won Tuesday night, including two of four girls teams.

LOS ALAMITOS defeated Huntington Beach 56-62 in the Sunset League opener.

The Sunset League season for the new girls basketball campaign started Thursday night and local teams split two contests.

In the big game, Huntington Beach lost 56-52 to Los Alamitos. The Griffins (12-2) were led by Cailyn Croker with 27 points, while Oilers star Frankie Wade Sanchez scored just 20 in the contest at the HBHS gymnasium for Huntington (7-7).

Overall, teams from the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area posted four wins and five losses.
