Although Garden Grove will again host a Tet Festival on Feb. 4 and 5 in Garden Grove Park there are observances of the Year of the Rooster in Westminster and other parts of Orange County.
A New Year Firecracker Celebration is planned for Saturday at noon at the Asian Garden Mall, 9200 Bolsa Ave. in Westminster in the front parking lot. The annual Tet Parade is set for Saturday, Feb. 4 on Bolsa Avenue. It will begin at Bishop Place then turn west from Bushard Street ending at Magnolia Street on Bolsa. Floats, bands and more will be on hand. About 15,000 people are expected to view the parade.

Parent information nights are scheduled at Edison High (Feb. 7), Fountain Valley (March 13 and 29), Huntington Beach High (Jan. 31), Marina (March 2 and 8), Ocean View (March 22) and Westminster High (Jan. 31). The HBUHSD serves Huntington Beach and most of Fountain Valley and Westminster.

Two schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District have been again named as National Demonstration Schools for the AVID (Advance Via Individual Determination) program promoting readiness for college.
LIFEGUARD TRYOUTS SET FOR FEB. 18
The City of Huntington Beach is hiring about 20 lifeguards for the municipal beach for 2017. The performance exam will take place at the Lifeguard Headquarters, south of the city pier, at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 103 Pacific Coast Highway.
The performance exam consists of a 1,000-yard ocean swim; a 500-yard ocean swim and a 1,500-yard run-swim-run. Top qualifying candidates will be invited to an oral interview on Sunday, Feb. 17. Applicants must be 17 by July 1, 2017.
