Finally, there’s a lot going on in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area so you don’t have to sit on your couch and binge-watch on Netflix while eating Cheetos and otherwise trashing your New Year’s resolutions. Here’s what’s happening:

TGIFMOVIES

Opening this weekend at cinemas in the area are:

  • “Rings,” a horror-film about a video that kills people seven days after they watch it. Rated PG-13.
  • “The Space Between Us.” A 16-year-old boy born and raised on Mars returns to Earth and finds that his body may not be able to handle the differences between the two planets. Starring Asa Butterfield, Britt Robertson and Gary Oldman. PG-13 sci-fi fantasy with a bit of romance.
  • “The Comedian.” A standup comic (Robert DeNiro) has to do community service after punching a heckler. Also starring Leslie Mann, Danny DeVito and Harvey Keitel. An R-rated comedy.

ON STAGE

“The Wisdom of Eve” continues at the Westminster Community Playhouse. It’s a stage adaptation of the story first told in the film “All About Eve.” It’s a gritty backstage look at the world of theater in 1950s New York. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and three Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. The WCP is located at 7272 Maple St. in Westminster. For more, go to http://www.wcpstage.com .
