A DRUG LAB exploded early Wednesday morning in Garden Grove and a man suffered severe burns.

A man sustained severe burns on his face, arms and legs in an explosion early Wednesday morning in Garden Grove. According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the Garden Grove Police Department, the man was believed to be injured in the process of operating an illegal drug lab.

The 32-year-old man – who was not identified – was living in the makeshift shed made out of an outdoor gazebo in his backyard in the 5700 block of Santa Catalina in Garden Grove. The explosion was reported at 1:24 a.m.

Garden Grove fire personnel administered medical aid to the man. Police investigators determined that he was operated a honey oil butane lab by which concentrated cannabis is extracted from marijuana leaves.

According to Lt. Whitney, the extraction method is extremely explosive because of the use of butane gas. The man was admitted to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was listed in stable condition.
