It’s the first day of spring. Don’t you feel better, happier, and more optimistic? Here’s a look ahead for the first week of the new season.
WEATHER: The summer-like weather we’ve been enjoying in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area will be taking a little vacation this week. It’s going to be partly cloudy with some showers for most of the week, finally yielding to sunny weather on Sunday.
- Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m.
ENTERTAINMENT: Movies and live action amusements this week.

“CHIPS,” an action-adventure-comedy based on the old TV show about the California Highway Patrol, opens on Friday. Also opening Friday will be “Power Rangers,” a live-action version of the former kids TV cartoon show.
- Live on stage will be the opening of “The Laramie Project” at the Westminster Community Playhouse, the story of a Wyoming college student fatally beaten because he was gay. Also, two more performances of “Always Patsy Cline” have been added for Saturday (8 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.) at the Gem Theater in Garden Grove.
SPORTS: The Anaheim Ducks will host the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, the Winnipeg Jets on Friday and the New York Rangers on Sunday.
EVENTS: A rally and march supporting President Donald Trump is set for Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Officially, it’s the “Southern California Make America Great Again March.”
