MIKE TROUT hit a two-run homer for the Angels on Monday (Flicker/Keith Allison).

It’s a long way from April to September, but the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim did not start the 2017 season on the right foot Monday. Mike Trout impressed with a tape-measure home run, but the Halo offense was otherwise quiet as the Angels lost 4-2 to the A’s in Oakland.

Trout’s 383-foot dinger gave the Angels a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, but the home team countered with two home runs by Khris Davis, and one by Stephen Vogt for the win. The Angels were outhit 9-7, outhomered 3-1 and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Nicky Nolasco (0-1) made the start for the Angels and lasted 5.2 innings. He gave up seven hits and three earned runs, including two homers. He struck out four and walked two.

“I just think a couple of mistakes there to Vogt and to Davis kind of cost the game,” Nolasco said. “But I felt good. I thought I was down in the zone for the most part and making pitches I needed to make. A couple of balls fell in, but the two balls I hung there were the difference in the game.”

At the plate Trout and Yunel Escobar each had a pair of hits.

Kendall Graveman (1-0) got the win for Oakland, working six innings and giving up six hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out seven.

The Angels and Athletics will be back at it Tuesday with Matt Shoemaker getting the start for the Orange County team.
