HBHS grabs Boras-South pennant

HUNTINGTON BEACH High’s baseball team won the South title of the Boras Classic Friday.

Huntington Beach High and Garden Grove High each recorded big baseball wins Friday. The Oilers (19-3) won the South portion of the Boras Classic and the Argonauts (13-5) locked up their league title.

The orange-and-black defeated Mira Costa 9-4 in the title game at JSerra High. Cory Moore hit a three-run home run to lead the hitting parade, and teammate Hagen Danner was named MVP. The Oilers will go on play the North winner, Bellarmine Prep of San Jose, on May 6 at UCLA.

The red-and-white defeated second place Santiago 7-0 to grab the Garden Grove League title. Cesar Valencia stood out for the Argos, pitching a shutout and striking out six batters. At the plate, he drove in three runs with a double and a single, and scored twice.
