THREE INTERMEDIATE schools in the Garden Grove Unified School Districts were honored as California Blue Ribbon Schools.

Three intermediate schools in Garden Grove Unified School District have been named 2017 California Gold Ribbon Schools. Alamitos, Bell, and Ralston intermediate schools were among the 275 middle and high schools statewide named as honorees, as announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson this week.

Alamitos and Ralston intermediate schools also received an additional award for being Title I Academic Achieving Schools, an honor given only to schools receiving federal Title I funds that assist in meeting the educational needs of students living at or below the poverty line.

California Gold Ribbon Schools are selected based on model programs or best practices that schools across the state could emulate.  Education officials visited schools before making their gold ribbon selections, and observed:

The Gold Ribbon awards recognize California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These include the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, California English Language Development Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.

Alamitos, Bell, and Raslton intermediate schools will be honored at a regional ceremony in May, along with Cook Elementary School which received a National Blue Ribbon award earlier this school year and Pacifica High School for earning the 2017 Civic Learning Award.
