A four-run fifth inning by the Texas Rangers was enough to send the Los Angeles Angels down to a 6-3 defeat Saturday, snapping the Halos’ five-game winning streak and evening their record at 13-13.
The Halos led 2-0 in the fourth on an RBI double by Mike Trout, which brought home Kole Calhoun and a sacrifice fly by Albert Pujols, which scored Trout. The all-star centerfielder had advanced to third on a throwing error.
The Angels put up one run in the top of the nine, as Cliff Pennington brought home Ben Revere on a sacrifice fly.
Calhoun and Trout each collected two hits, but overall the team had a total of six to the Rangers’ 10. Jesse Chavez (2-4) worked six innings for the Angels, giving up eight hits and four earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.
J.C. Ramirez (2-2) will make the start Sunday (today) for the Angels.
