Heavy traffic seen for Strawberry Festival

Beginning Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29, the 59th annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival will take place in downtown Garden Grove at Village Green Park, located at 12732 Main Street, where Euclid and Main Streets intersect. During the four-day festival, heavy traffic is anticipated in the immediate area. Motorists are asked to plan accordingly to avoid delays.

Main Street, north of Acacia Parkway, will be closed from Thursday, May 25 through Tuesday morning, May 30.

The following streets will be closed only on Saturday, May 27, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for the annual Strawberry Stomp 5K and the Strawberry Festival Parade:

  • Acacia Parkway, from Grove Street to Civic Center Drive
  • 9thStreet, between Jerry Lane and Orangewood Avenue
  • Chapman Avenue, between West and Nelson Streets
  • Euclid Street, between Orangewood Avenue and Garden Grove Boulevard

No vehicles will be allowed to drive or park on the closed streets until the 5K and parade have ended. Any vehicles found on the street after 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, will be towed and impounded. Affected streets will be posted with ‘NO PARKING’ signs and residents will be notified in advance.

Orange County Transit Authority bus routes will be affected by road closures.

Stanford Avenue and residential streets near Lampson Avenue and Euclid Street will be open to residents only. Identification will be required for vehicles traveling on those streets during festival hours.

Residential parking by permit only, will be enforced on Pine and Walnut streets, south of Lampson Avenue, and College Avenue, between Euclid and Pine streets.  Garden Grove police officers will be in the immediate area to provide directions for residents entering or leaving the area.

Suggested alternate routes during the 5K and parade hours are Katella Avenue or Garden Grove Boulevard for east and west traffic. For north and south traffic, alternate routes are Brookhurst or West streets.

On Saturday, May 27, the Strawberry Stomp 5K walk/run race will officially begin at 8 a.m. on Main Street and travel north on Euclid Street, heading east on Chapman Avenue to 9th Street, before looping back onto Euclid Street. The 5K will finish on Main Street at 9:30 a.m.

Following the 5K, at 10 a.m., the parade will begin on Chapman Avenue, from 9th to Euclid streets, then continue south towards Village Green Park where it concludes at Acacia Parkway.
