He who lives by the last inning heroics dies by the last-inning heroics. The Oakland A’s proved that Monday night, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 in 11 innings on a home run by Jed Lowrie in Oakland. The Halos have 11 come-from-behind wins so far this season, but now they’ve lost five of six games.

Monday’s results dropped the team to 16-18, still technically in second place in the AL West, but only ahead of Seattle and Oakland (both 15-17) by a margin of 0.2 points.

The loss ruined a good pitching performance by Ricky Nolasco, who went seven strong innings, giving up five hits and two runs. He struck out 10 batters and walked none.

Playing another game without Mike Trout, the visitors managed nine hits, but were unable to string many of them together, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Albert Pujols had another strong day bat, with two hits.

The big Angel offensive play came in the first inning when Danny Valbuena hit a two-run home run to give the Halos a 2-0 lead. It was his first home run of the reason.

Alex Meyer (0-1) will get the start for the Angels on Tuesday.
