A pair of Angels had some memorable hits Saturday, but they couldn’t compete with the one-man show put on by J.D. Martinez of the Detroit Tigers. The right fielder for the visitors had three hits, including two home runs and three RBIs as his team defeated the Angels 4-3 at the Big A.
For the Halos, Albert Pujols singled home two runs in the fifth to tie with Carl Yastremski for 11th on the all-time RBI list, and Mike Trout homered for the second night it in a row in the seventh.
Ricky Nolasco had a below-par night, going six innings and giving up three runs and five hits – two of them home runs. He walked four and struck out four. Bud Norris (1-1) got the loss in relief when he gave up Martinez’ second homer.
