Angels, Ducks have good Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day with a good day for the Orange County major league teams. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim got a win over the Detroit Tigers as Mike Trout continued his long-ball prowess, and the Anaheim Ducks squared their NHL Western Conference finals series with the Nashville Predators.

TROUT, MEYERS LEAD ANGELS PAST TIGERS

Mike Trout his third home run in as many days as the Angels defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-1 in Anaheim. Alex Mayer had a strong start for the Halos as the locals improved to 19-21 and remained in third place in the American League West, a half-game behind the second place Texas Rangers.

After Detroit went ahead 1-0 in the first, Trout tied it up with a solo home run. Danny Espinosa homered in the fourth, and that was all the Halos needed to post the win. They scored two more in the victory. Trout ended up with two RBIs.

Meyer (2-1) went 6.1 innings and gave up just three hits and one run. He struck out seven batters and walked two.

The Angels will open a series in Anaheim on Monday against the Chicago White Sox. Jesse Chavez (2-5) will get the start for the home team.

RALLY HELPS DUCKS EVEN SERIES AT 1-1

The Anaheim Duck scored three times in the third period to overcome an early lead by the Nashville Predators and went on to a 5-3 win Sunday night at the Honda Center. The win tied up their playoff series at one game apiece.

The Ducks got goals from Sami Vantanen, Jakob Silfverberg, Ordrej Kase, Nick Ritchie and Antoine Vermette in the win. John Gibson had 30 saves in goal. The series now shifts back to Nashville on Tuesday.
