With a 3-0 loss to the Mets in New York on Friday night, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tumbled back down to .500 and into third place in the American League West.
Ricky Nolasco (2-3) pitched well, going six innings and giving up just four hits and one earned run. He struck out four batters and walked three. Michael Conforto homered for the Mets in the seventh.
The Halos (22-22) will try again in the Big Apple Saturday with Alex Meyer (2-1) on the mound.
CHARGERS KEEP CHARGING
Edison High’s baseball team continues on a roll as the Chargers defeated Wilson High of Long Beach 4-2 in first round CIF-SS Division 2 play on Friday. The green-and-gold have now won seven straight games and improved their record to 17-11.
Second round games are scheduled for Tuesday, May 23. Among local teams serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area, Huntington Beach continues in Division 1 play, while Edison advances in D-4. Garden Grove also advances in Division 5.
Local teams advancing in softball are Pacifica (Division 1) and Santiago (D-6).
