HOMELESSNESS will be the topic of a presentation Wednesday night in Garden Grove.

A presentation on homelessness in Garden Grove will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at the Courtyard Center in Garden Grove.

The event, presented by the Garden Grove Neighborhood Association and the Downtown Business Association, will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will feature remarks by Officer Brian Hatfield of the GGPD. Hatfield established the five-man Special Resources Team to help address the problems associated with the homeless and mentally ill.

Light refreshments will be served and doors to the center – located at 12732 Main St., in the Village Green Park – will open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call (714) 235-5360.

POWER OUTAGE HIT WESTMINSTER

An estimated 3500 homes were without electrical power in Westminster for several on Friday, according to reports.

The outage began around 1:30 p.m. The cause of the power loss is believes to be Mylar balloons, which shorted out electrical equipment used by Southern California Edison. Mylar balloons are metallic and are believed to cause many outages when they are released by celebrants and rise into power lines.

COOL OFF AT THE SENIOR CENTER

With temperatures in the 80s and 90s, people who need relief from the heat can find it at the H. Louis Lake Senior Center in Garden Grove. The center, located at 11300 Stanford Ave., will be open as a cooling center on days in which high temperatures are forecast in July and August from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Temperatures in Garden Grove are expected to hit a high of 89 degrees on Monday, then drop to the mid-80s the rest of the week. The local high was 94 degrees on Saturday.
