Panthers, Aztecs, Vikes post grid wins

ORANGE, La Quinta and Marina won their season football openers on Thursday night.

One local high school football team rolled to an easy victory Thursday night on the road, while another was caught in a seesaw battle at its home field. The third team is off to a fast 2-0 start. Here are results for teams in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

Orange 54, Anaheim 7

The Panthers opened their 2017 campaign with a one-sided win over the Colonists at Glover Field in Anaheim. OHS (1-0) will be in action next week against Santiago High on Thursday.

La Quinta 38, Laguna Beach 34

A touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute lifted the Aztecs to an exciting victory at Bolsa Grande Stadium in the season opener for both teams. Mike Nadeau was the star for the home team, running for four touchdowns including the game-winner. He finished with 118 yards passing and 54 yards rushing.

The Aztecs (1-0) will travel to Claremont on Friday to face The Webb Schools.

Marina 26, Torrance 15

The Vikings improved their record to 2-0 with the win over the Tartars Thursday night at Westminster High. Blaine  Riederich rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns to lead the team. He also caught two passes for 41 yards.

MHS (2-0) will be in action next week on Friday playing at Westminster High against the Lions in the annual Battle at the Boswell.
