A change in name – and possibly mission – for the Main Street Commission, along with the exploration of possible development options for the city-owned Willowick Golf Course will highlight Tuesday’s meeting of the Garden Grove City Council.
The council will consider a proposed ordinance to rename the commission as the Downtown Commission. The item was put forward by Mayor Steve Jones and supported by the council at its Sept. 12 meeting.
Also on Tuesday, the council will consider a memorandum of understanding with the City of Santa Ana regarding possible future development of the 101.5-acre golf course, located at 3017 W. Fifth Street in Santa Ana.
While the land is owned by Garden Grove, it is within Santa Ana city limits. It is located along the route of the planned OC Streetcar line, which will link the two cities. In the past, there has been discussion of a variety of projects there, including a professional soccer stadium or an amusement park.
The council will meet in its chambers of the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
