THE LOWERING of speed limits on segments of four streets in Huntington Beach goes before the city council on Monday.
Whoa. Hey, slow down.
The Huntington Beach City Council on Monday will take up the issue of speed limits and will consider recommendations to slow down drivers on segments of streets in the city. As listed by the city’s public works department, the proposed lowering of the legal driving speed would be as follows:
- Indianapolis Avenue from Beach Boulevard to Newland Street: from 40 to 35.
- Parkside Lane from Edinger Avenue to Holt Drive: from 30 to 25.
- Warner Avenue from Pacific Coast Highway to Algonquin Street: from 50 to 45.
The recommendations come from surveying 10 street segments in the city by sampling travel speeds, accident history and special roadway characteristics.
A review of posted speed limits on a regular basis is required by the California Vehicle Code.
Also on Monday night, the council will consider a request from Council member Billy O’Connell to establish a council ad hoc committee about “odors in the community.” O’Connell wants the city to “create a strategy to working with regulatory agencies to search for the cause of the odor and to work collaboratively on solutions to mitigate the odor.”
The council meets at 6 p.m. in its chambers in the Civic Center at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue).
