Anaheim Ducks lose second straight

ANAHEIM DUCKS lost to the Nashville Predators 5-3 on Friday.

The Anaheim Ducks suffered their second straight loss on home ice Friday, falling 5-3 to the Nashville Predators at Honda Center. The loss dropped the local team to 6-6-1 and sixth place in the NHL Pacific Division.

Scoring for the Ducks were Antoine Vermette, Hampus Lindholm and Jakob Silfverberg. John Gibson had 35 saves. Anaheim fell behind 3-0 in the second period, but closed to within one goal late, until P.K. Subban scored for the Preds with less than a minute left to play.

The Ducks are next in action on Saturday, visiting the Sharks (7-5) in San Jose.

Oilers fall in girls’ volleyball playoffs

The Huntington Beach High girl’s volleyball team, champs of the Sunset League, lost a second round match in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs on Thursday. The Oilers fell 3-1 to Corona del Mar.

HBHS won the first game 25-23, but then the Sea Kings (21-6) rolled with wins of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-10 to advance to the quarterfinals against Harvard-Westlake on Saturday.

The orange-and-black finished the season with a 25-7 record.
