27 dead, more hurt in church shooting

TWENTY PEOPLE have been killed and others wounded in a shooting inside a church in Texas.

UPDATE: The number of persons dead in Sunday’s church shooting in Texas has now been put at 27. Several news sources have identified the shooter – now deceased – as Devin Patrick Kelly, 26, of Texas.

At least 20 people are dead and as many as 12 wounded when a gunman opened fire inside a church in the south Texas town of Sutherland Springs Sunday morning. The gunman is dead, either by his own hand or was shot by law enforcement officers.

Details are still unclear, but the Associated Press is reporting that the 14-year-old daughter of the pastor of the First Baptist Church was among those killed. The pastor and his wife were out of town during the attack.

First reports of shots fired came in between noon and 12:30 p.m. local time. The identity of the gunman, most of the victims and a possible motive are unknown.
