TGIF: Movies, a play and a cruise

It’s the last weekend before Christmas and you are still shopping? Well, you’re not alone. But if you can still squeeze in a few moments for amusement, here are some things to see and do between trips to the mall and the supermart.

Movies: From “Downsizing” to “Darkest Hour”

Films opening this week in the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.

• “Downsizing” stars Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig in a comedy/sci-fi/drama about shrinking your cares by literally shrinking down to about five inches tall. Rated R.
• “Pitch Perfect 3”: Another sequel about rowdy a capella ladies. Anna Kendrick stars. Rated PG-13.
• “Darkest Hour.” Gary Oldman is Winston Churchill during England’s darkest hour in World War II. Rated PG-13.
• “Father Figures.” Two brothers go on a trip to find their biological father. Starring Owen Wilson, Fred Helms, Glenn Close, Terry Bradshaw. Comedy rated R.
• “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.” Another movie based on a magical board game. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Rated PG-13.
• “The Greatest Showman.” Hugh Jackman stars in this musical about the life of P.T. Barnum, the great circus pioneer. Rated PG.

On Stage: It’s still wonderful

• “It’s A Wonderful Life” concludes this weekend at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Events: The “Cruise of Lights” sails on

The 55th annual “Cruise of Lights” concludes this week, with gaily lit and decorated boats sailing through Huntington Harbour Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The event benefits the Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee. For more information, go to http://www.cruiseoflights.org .
