The In-N-Out restaurant chain will have another go at getting approval for a new hamburger eatery at next week’s meeting of the Garden Grove Planning Commission.
Originally set for the agenda of the Jan. 4 meeting, the proposal for the facility near the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Harbor Boulevard was withdrawn because of concerns about historic preservation. The building was originally a Bob’s Big Boy, and is now a Coco’s Restaurant and Bakery.
It sports the futuristic “googie” style of architecture popular in the Fifties, many examples of which were built in the area surrounding Disneyland. A reworked proposal will go before the planners on Thursday, Jan. 18. The new plan calls for preservation of the existing buildings curve-shaped roof, round support columns and roof sign.
The Coco’s and nearby Rocky’s Market liquor store will be demolished. The new project with cover 57,882 square feet, with the eatery built on a 3,867-square foot site, with a drive-through lane.
The commission meets in the council chambers inside the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 6 p.m.
