Austin Hedges, a catcher for the San Diego Padres, surprised the baseball program at Bolsa Grande High School with a generous donation of Under Armour baseball equipment valued at $6000.  Last week, Bolsa Grande administrators and baseball coaches surprised students with the Under Armour shipment, which included baseball helmets, shirts, shoes, socks, and more.

“The generosity of Mr. Hedges, and the example he set about paying it forward, is something these young athletes will never forget,” said Garden Grove Unified School District board member Dina Nguyen.  “Athletics is such an important part of the high school experience and having quality equipment can make all of the difference for our players.”

Hedges’charitable act was made possible thanks in part to connections made by Sunnyside Elementary School Secretary Dolly Chatterton.   Bolsa Grande’s Assistant Baseball Coach Greg Johnston was also instrumental in helping the school secure the donation.  The Bolsa Grande Matadors are currently practicing and gearing up for the season which begins in March.
