Hosted short-term rentals before council

A proposed ordinance that would allow for hosted short-term vacation rentals will on the agenda for Monday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

The council meets in its chambers in the Civic Center at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue) beginning at 6 p.m.

Currently, all short-term rentals of less than 30 days in a single family and multiple family homes are illegal in Huntington Beach. But Councilman Patrick Brenden is proposing that the ban be lifted for short-term rentals in which the property owners remain on site for the duration of the vacationer’s stay.

According to Brenden, “the general consensus … was that hosted rentals pose little concern to the community.” He goes on to say in a memo to the council that hosted short-term rentals provide a variety of benefits to the community, including fees and transient occupancy tax would provide new tax revenue to the city.

He’s asking that within 90 days a draft ordinance to allow the hosted rentals be allowed in residential zones.
