Body is found in a burning automobile

Garden Grove police are investigating as a “suspicious death” an early morning fire on Tuesday in which a body was found inside a burning car in the Korean business district.

According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident began around 3:30 a.m. when firefighters were sent to a location in the 9800 block of Garden Grove Boulevard – near Galway Street – regarding a report of a car on fire.

After extinguishing the blaze in the 2005 Toyota Prius, a body was discovered inside the vehicle.

Garden Grove Fire Department arson investigators determined that the fire had been deliberately set and GGPD homicide detectives were summoned.

The victim has not been identified and it’s not certain if the victim was male or female. The Orange County Coroner’s office will seek to identify the person.
