GARDEN GROVE City Council will meet on Friday morning for a study session.

The Garden Grove City Council will be working overtime on Friday when it holds a special meeting at the Emerald Room in the Sheraton Hotel at 12221 Harbor Blvd. in Garden Grove.

A study session, the conclave will start at 8 a.m. Although no action will be taken, the session is open to the public. The session/workshop will cover such topics as:

• good governance principles and roles of the city manager and city council
• a presentation on fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19 revenue and expenditure forecast
• overview of the city issues survey and community conversation on essential city services
• an update from the budget sub-committee
• Discussion of the 2018-19 work plan.

Togia honored by school administrators

Pacifica High School senior Isaak Togia received the Association of California School Administrators’ “Every Student Succeeding Award” at a special breakfast celebration held on March 9 at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.

The award honors “Student Superheroes” for overcoming significant obstacles to achieve success and the school leaders who help them along the way.

Togia will be honored at ACSA’s Leadership Summit on Nov. 8-10 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel.

With the help of his family and the staff at Pacifica High School in West Garden Grove,  Togia has excelled in the classroom and on the football field.

He earned an NCAA scholarship and was actively recruited by several Division 1 colleges before signing with San Jose State University.

At school, he is a leader and mentor to students with special needs, athletes, and other students who face challenges.

Spring Festival in Westminster on Saturday

The annual Spring Festival and Community Resource Fair will be held Saturday at the Westminster Civic Center (8200 Westminster Blvd.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Featured will be craft vendors, children’s activities, food and live entertainment, police and fire service displays, a pancake breakfast and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.

Sound was likely fireworks, not gunshots

A lockdown occurred for about 10 minutes on Thursday at Garden Grove High School and Ralston Intermediate School due to a report of possible shots fired in the surrounding neighborhood.

It was ultimately lifted, however, said police, as the call turned out to be unfounded. It is believed at this time that the sounds that were heard were possibly fireworks erupting, according to police.
