Shohei Ohtani showed he can hit as well as pitch Tuesday as he slammed a three-run home run and ended up with three hits in the Angels’ 13-2 win over the Cleveland Indians in Anaheim.
After a rough first inning, Garrett Richards settled down and ended up with 5 2/3 innings pitch with just one hit and two runs yielded. He walked four batters and struck out nine to get his first win of 2018.
The Angels improved to 4-2 overall, and are in third place in the American League West. They are one game behind the division-leading Houston Astros (5-1).
On Wednesday, the Angels will send Tyler Skaggs (1-0) to the mound against the Indians.
Hobbled Ducks host the Wild
Playing without defenseman Cam Fowler – out for two to six weeks with a shoulder injury – and possibly first-string goalkeeper John Gibson, the Anaheim Ducks will try to stay alive in the playoff
The Ducks are 41-25-13, worth 95 points. That’s one point behind the Los Angeles Kings (96 points), who are in third in the NHL Pacific. The top three teams in each division make the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Ducks are in better shape in the wild card race, sitting in first in the Western Conference.
Two locals post baseball wins
Most area high schools are on spring break, but their athletic teams may not be.
On Tuesday, in baseball, Pacifica defeated San Juan Hills 2-1, and La Quinta bested Godinez 7-3. Marina fell to Centennial High of Corona 3-1 and Los Amigos lost 13-1 to Diamond Ranch.
In softball, Mater Dei bested Edison 11-6.
