64-foot high sign goes to planners

WESTMINSTER PLANNING COMMISSION meets on Wednesday and will consider a two-sided electronic billboard.

A proposal to build a two-sided electronic billboard that’s nearly twice as tall as the current height limit will go before the Westminster Planning Commission when it meets on Wednesday.

Electra Media Inc. is proposing to erect the advertising device at 13071 Springdale St., facing the Garden Grove (22) Freeway adjacent to the Westminster Rinks ice hockey facility.

The sign would be 64 feet above grade; the height maximum now is 35 feet. It would operate from 5 a.m. to midnight daily.

In connection with this, EMI is proposing to remove the abandoned Sunset Ford sign along the freeway at 6312 Garden Grove Boulevard.

Further, the applicant proposes to share a portion of the revenue from the proposed billboard with the city.

The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.

  1. The old sunset ford sign light/up my back yard with a Really BAD Flickering /Annoying LIGHT!
And this one’s going to be twice as tall it’s going to light up the entire West Garden Grove neighborhood .
Not good for West Garden Grove property values and really annoying to the residence in this area.😡

  2. There are more than enough conventional billboards in the area of the Springdale over crossing and the Rinks at Westminster. A 65 foot tall jumbotron does NOT fit in with the existing billboards. The owner of the Rinks must be getting something for having this gargantuan thing in his parking lot, or he would not have shown up at the planning meeting and sit with the EMI owner.
