Argos advance to volleyball semifinals

GARDEN GROVE High’s boys’ volleyball team will be in the CIF-SS Division 5 semifinals on Wednesday.

Garden Grove High School’s boys’ volleyball team will host Redlands High in CIF-SS Division 5 semifinal match on Wednesday.

The Argonauts, top-ranked in their division, advanced with a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Valley View.

Huntington Beach was eliminated in Division 1 play, falling 3-1 to Corona del Mar.

In boys’ tennis, Huntington Beach will be in the D-2 quarterfinals on Monday hosting JSerra. The Oilers won their second round contest 10-8 over San Luis Obispo.

Baseball, softball pairings are coming Monday

The CIF-SS office will being posting brackets and pairings for baseball and softball on Monday.

Baseball information will be available starting at 10 a.m. and softball by noon. Go to www.cif-ss.org . 

Angels lose to Twins in 12th inning, 5-3

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lost a 12-inning game Saturday night and the lead in the American League West.

Two runs in the 12th by the Minnesota Twins broke a 3-3 tie and send the Halos down to a loss. The defeat dropped them into second place in the ALW at 23-16, a game behind the Houston Astros.

The Angels scrambled back from a 3-0 third-inning deficit, scoring once each in the third, sixth and seventh. Justin Upton continued his hot hitting with two hits and two RBIs.

Starter Nick Tropeano made it six innings, giving up three runs and five hits.

Shohei Ohtani (3-1) will make the start in Anaheim Sunday.
