Jobless rate drops to 2.6% for April

THE JOBLESS rate in Orange County dropped from 2.8 percent in March 2018 to 2.6 percent in April 2018.

Unemployment in Orange County continues to drop as the jobless rate fell to 2.6 percent in April, compared to 2.8 percent in March.

According to the state Employment Development Department, that meant an increase of 11,100 jobs in the past month.

The largest increase was in the field of professional and business services, with a spike of 3,100 positions. In leisure and hospitality, the rise was for 3,000 jobs.

On the other hand, manufacturing showed a drop of 1,700 jobs.

Over the year from April 2017 to April 2018, nonfarm employment in Orange County rose by 29,400 jobs, an increase of 1.8 percent.
