Mike keeps hitting, but not the team

Let’s celebrate Mike Trout’s accomplishments because there’s not a lot else to celebrate recently from the Los Angeles Angels. Over the past seven games the Halo centerfielder has hit seven home runs and batted .400.

However, the Halos (29-25) have lost four of seven – including three of their last four – and settled into third place in the American League West.

On Monday the Orange County team was beaten by the Detroit Tigers 9-3 in the Motor City. The last run scored by the Angels was a home run by Trout, his 18th, which is the best in Major League Baseball.

Detroit was ahead 7-0 before the Angels could get on the board. The visitors from Anaheim got seven hits. Andrelton Simmons was the only player on the team to get two or more hits. He singled and doubled and drove in a run.

The game was so frustrating for the OC team that manager Mike Scoiscia and catcher Martin Maldonado were ejected for arguing calls on strikes and balls.

The Angels will take on the Tigers again on Tuesday with Nick Tropeano (2-3) making the start for the Halos.
