Candidates begin election campaigns

THE 2018 LOCAL ELECTION season is underway and some candidates have begun the filing process.

The 2018 local election season is underway as candidates have started taking out nomination papers to run for office in the cities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

It started on July 16 and the deadline is Aug. 10. As of Tuesday morning (July 24), here are the names of people who have taken out papers. Details for Stanton have been added in this update; information for Westminster will be posted as it becomes available.

Garden Grove

For mayor: Steve Jones (incumbent), Don Taylor.

For city council: District 1: Adam Degner, Kris Beard (incumbent). District 3: Thu Ha Nguyen (incumbent). District 4: Joe Do Vinh, Mark Paredes, Phat Bui (incumbent).

Huntington Beach

For city attorney: Jerry Friedman, Michael Gates (incumbent).

For city council:  Brian Burley, Kim Carr, Barbara Delgeize (incumbent), K.C. Fockler, Amory Hanson, Dan Kalmick. Don Kennedy, Shayna Lathus, Billy O’Connell (incumbent), Erik Peterson (incumbent), Mike Posey (incumbent), Charles Ray, Daniel Schlosser, Michael Simons, Ron Sterud.

Stanton

For mayor: Kevin Carr, Brian Donahue, David Shawver.

For city council: District 1: Rigoberto Ramirez (incumbent). District 3: Loreen Berlin, Anna Saludes, James Michael Scott, Gary Taylor.

Note: Donahue and Shawver are incumbent members of the city council, but not incumbents in the mayor position.

  1. Kevin Carr is not running for office in Stanton this November. Israel Hilario-Perez is running for Mayor of Stanton this November 2018.
