Shohei Ohtani, perhaps the most anticipated new Angel of 2018, hasn’t had quite the impact fans had hoped for this season. But the two-way star from Japan showed a flash of his potential on Friday when he hit two home runs to help power the Halos to a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on the road. 

The win snapped a four-game skid by the Orange County team, and lifted the Angels’ record to 55-56. It was the Halos’ first win at Progressive Field since September 2014, breaking a 10-game losing streak.

Ohtani, batting third in the DH spot, ended up with a 4-for-5 night, scoring three runs and driving in three. He also stole a base, ending up with 10 total bases and pushing his batting average to .272. Centerfielder Eric Young had two hits – including a double – and drove in two runs.

The game was deadlocked at 3-all until the Angels burst out with four runs in the eighth inning.

Jaime Barria worked five innings, giving up six hits and three runs. The decision went to Justin Anderson (3-2), who pitched a perfect seventh.

On Saturday the Angels will send Felix Pena (1-2) to the mound to oppose Corey Kluber (13-6).
