Despite a stirring comeback on Sunday, the Los Angeles Angels won’t be the ones to slow down the Oakland A’s in their rampage toward the postseason.

The Halos fell behind 8-3 at one point, and fell just short, losing 8-7 in Anaheim to drop to 59-60 and lose the rubber game of the series.

Three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and one in the fifth gave the northerners what seemed to be a commanding lead, but the Angels answered with one run in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth.

Francisco Arcia hit a solo homer in the sixth and the team had five doubles but it wasn’t quite enough. Shohei Ohtani had two hits and two RBIs and Justin Upton had two hits, a walk and a run batted in.

Angel starter Taylor Cole barely got out of the first inning, giving up three hits and three runs. Six relievers didn’t much better, getting tagged for nine more hits and five runs. Jim Johnson (4-3) had the worst of it, giving up three hits and four runs in one inning.

On Monday the Angels head down the coast to take on the San Diego Padres (48-72). Andrew Heaney (7-7) starts for the Orange County team, and Clayton Richard (7-10) will take the mound for the hosts.
