Heaney’s gem propels Halos near .500

Yes, maybe it’s a bit late, but the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are on a bit of a roll. Their 1-0 win over Chicago White Sox on Sunday made for a sweep of the three-game series in the Windy City but also was their fourth win in five games.

Not only that, it improved the team’s record to 71-72, just one victory short of the .500 mark that indicates a successful team.

Starter Andrew Heaney was the main architect of the triumph, working seven innings and giving up only three hits and no runs. He struck out 12 batters and walked none en route to squaring his record at 9-9. Those K’s were a career high for Heaney.

The game’s only run came in the top of the seventh when Kole Calhoun smacked a line drive single to right, scoring Jose Fernandez.

Chicago also got a sterling performance from its starter, Reynaldo Lopez, who went six innings and yielded two hits and no runs. He struck out 10 and walked three.

The Angels return home on Monday to host the Texas Rangers. Jaime Barria (10-8) will start for the Orange County team while Mike Minor (11-7) will go for the Rangers.
