New eateries, bigger cinema for WGG?

JACK IN THE BOX eatery planned for revamped center on Valley View in West Garden Grove.

The long-awaited revamping of a commercial center on Valley View Street will come before the Garden Grove Planning Commission when it meets on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Proposed for the 2.71-acre site now occupied by a movie theater and a closed buffet restaurant is a project that would include an expanded movie complex, a new Jack In the Box fast food restaurant (with drive-through lanes), a sit-down restaurant and an automatic car wash.

The developer is Cinemas Management, Inc. and according to the city staff report, the existing Four Star theater – with four auditoriums – would become a Starlight Cinema increased in size with a 2,846 expansion and reconfiguration to result in six auditoriums.

Total seating for the cinema will be reduced from 627 seats to 326 seats to allow for stadium-style seating with recliner seats. The existing vacant eatery would be demolished to make room for the development.

The new sit-down restaurant has not been identified, and the closed bowling alley at the south of the site is not part of the project, located at 12101 and 12111 Valley View St., south of Chapman Avenue.

The commission meets at 7 p.m. in the council chambers inside the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.

  1. We don’t need more fast foods or car washes – we already have McDonald’s, Carl’s Jr, KFC, Taco Bell and Burger King all clumped together! What about a nice sit down family restaurant or 2

  2. Hey, this is better than the eyesore that is there!! Out with that old, vacant Chinese buffet, and in with a new, updated look!!
