Nicer weather (we hope), many meetings

Did you get caught not having changed your clocks for daylight savings time and were late for something. Or did you just forget the one in the microwave?

Now that we’re all on the same temporal page, here’s your Monday Briefing about what’s going on this coming week for the communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

WEATHER: The rain is gone. Probably.  The sky is expected to stay cloudy and then turn sunny by midweek. Temperatures will rise from the mid-60s to the low-70s by the weekend. Some chance of showers Monday(today) and Tuesday, but we are hopeful for a dry couple of days.

MEETINGS: Several civic conclaves this week. Here’s a list.

• Garden Grove City Council meets on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. It’s a light agenda with the standout item being about education for the coming bike path expansion.
• Westminster City Council meets on Wednesday with the regular session starting at 7 p.m. The agenda includes requests for special permits for three “Black April” events at the Sid Goldstein Freedom Park, April 27, 28 and 30, and one for “Family Day in the Park” at Sigler Park.
• An open house about proposed plans for renovating Westminster Mall (Bolsa Avenue and Goldenwest Street) will be held Tuesday in the mall from 6-8 p.m.
• Stanton City Council will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., with the six-month update on the city’s strategic plan on the agenda.

EVENTS: The big item locally will be on Saturday with “Art in the Park” at the Village Green in downtown Garden Grove. Featured will be art from local students and will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s part of the city’s “Re: Imagine Garden Grove” campaign to focus attention on Garden Grove’s historic center.

• The 2019 “Westminster Women of Distinction” event will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the Westminster Civic Center. Councilman Sergio Contreras will celebrate 10 local women who have contributed to the quality of life in Westminster.
• Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day. You know what to wear.

ENTERTAINMENT:  Opening this week in local cinemas will be:

• “Wonder Park,” a PG-rated animated film about an amazing amusement park.
• “Captive State” is a sci-fi movie set 10 years after Earth is conquered by aliens. Rated PG-13.
• “Five Feet Apart” is a romance film about two teenagers with cystic fibrosis who must maintain that physical distance, but who grow closer emotionally. Rated PG-13.

SPORTS: The Anaheim Ducks will host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday at Honda Center and the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
