Can Mariners upset the Centurions?

League play is getting underway this week for more local high school baseball and softball leagues. The most interesting matchup of the week looks to be Tuesday (today) when Pacifica hosts Cypress in the Empire League opener for both schools at the Mariner diamond.

The Centurions (10-1) look to be the heavy favorites and are ranked 18th nationally. But the Mariners (5-6) will be at their home field, where they have been 4-2 so far in 2019.

It’s also a good contest because the two schools are neighbors, and that adds some spice to the rivalry.

Here are the latest standings for league with teams in the Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster area.

BASEBALL
