Hiring of interim city mgr. on agenda

The hiring of an interim city manager and a resolution advising the city’s trash collecting company of a notice of termination top the agenda for Monday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.

If approved by the council, Lori Ann Farrell-Harrison – the current assistant city manager – would take over the top job in the city until the post of city manager is filled on a permanent basis.

The current city manager, Fred Wilson, has announced his retirement effective May 10. Farrell-Harrison would be paid $106.32 per hour – that’s an annual figure of $221,048 – while serving as the city’s chief executive.

Also on Monday, the council will consider a notice of termination to Rainbow/Republic Services contract with the city for refuse collection and recycling.

The contract contains an “evergreen” clause which “in essence requires a 15-year notice of cancellation,” according to a city staff report. Negotiations between the city and Rainbow/Republic for a new or revised contract have stalled.

Also on the agenda will be a lease for property at 5770 Research Drive for a 50-bed “navigation center” for the homeless, with a planned opening date of fall 2019.

The city council meets in regular session at 6 p.m. in its chambers in the Civic Center, 2000 Main St, (at Yorktown).
