A REMAKE of “Hellboy” will be in cinemas this week.
With baseball season underway, we are officially in the springtime. Or, as some people would put it, in the countdown for the start of football.
For all of you marking time until kickoff, here’s the outlook for what’s planned for this week.
MEETINGS: Garden Grove City Council meets on Tuesday with a big issue on the agenda: an agreement to contract with the Orange County Fire Authority for firefighting and paramedic services, replacing the 92-year-old Garden Grove Fire Department.
- Also on Tuesday, the Stanton City Council will convene. Matters to be considered are the idea of creating a business improvement district and an increase in the city’s “bed tax” at motels and hotels.
Both councils meet at 6:30 p.m.
- The meeting of the Westminster City Council scheduled for Wednesday evening has been cancelled.
- But that’s not all. The Huntington Beach Union High School District Board of Trustees will convene on Tuesday at 6 p.m., following a study session and closed session beginning at 4 p.m.
On the agenda will be a resolution awarding a contract to Balfour-Beatty Construction LLC for improvements to the district’s athletic facilities.
The HBUHSD is a 9-12 district that serves Huntington Beach and portions of Fountain Valley and Westminster. District office is located at 5832 Bolsa Ave., Huntington Beach.
MOVIES: Major films opening this weekend will include:
- “Hellboy” is a sci-fi flick about a demon fighting against evil supernatural enemies. Rated R.
- “Missing Link” is a PG-rated animated action-adventure flick telling about the loneliness of a big-foot-type critter in the Pacific Northwest.
- “Little” flips the script from the classic Tom Hanks movie “Big,” as a hard-driving workaholic adult is magically turned into a 13-year-old girl. Rated PG-13.
- “After” tells the story of how a “do-good” high school student (Tessa Young) turns a bit wild when she enrolls in college. Rated PG-13.
EVENTS: It’s spring, so what better time to hold a spring festival?
The City of Westminster is hosting just such an event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Civic Center, 8200 Westminster Blvd. For more information, go to www.westminster-ca.gov.
SPORTS: After having won four games in a row – and Mike Trout hitting a home run in most of them – the Halos are definitely worth watching again. They will host the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with each game at 7:07 in Anaheim. Then Thursday will be a travel day to start a series in Chicago on Friday with the Cubs.
